LutherOne for goal tracking: pros, cons and an alternative
LutherOne is an engagement and people analytics platform with goals and OKRs in its performance module. Clearahead tracks the company’s goals and what’s holding them back, with AI keeping it current
The short answer
LutherOne is a people platform from Prague that combines engagement surveys, people analytics, performance management, 360 feedback, skills mapping and an AI coach for managers. Goals, KPIs and OKRs sit inside its performance module. Clearahead is goal tracking software for the company itself: each goal, the constraints holding it back and the moves that clear them, kept current by AJ, its AI. If you want to understand and improve how your people feel and perform, LutherOne is a credible, well-reviewed choice. If you want your leadership team aligned on a few company goals and moving on what’s in the way, Clearahead is built for that.

What is LutherOne?
LutherOne describes itself as one platform for every people decision. At its heart is employee engagement: regular surveys, anonymous by design, with dashboards that show how teams feel and how that changes over time. Around that sit performance management, 360 feedback, skills mapping, continuous feedback, an internal social network, awards and certificates, and simple task management.
Goals live in the performance module. You can set individual, team and company goals, using KPIs, OKRs or whatever framework you prefer, give them weights, run them in cycles and check in on them. LutherOne sends reminders, shows how goals align, and connects them to self, manager and peer reviews, talent grids, succession plans and growth plans. It syncs with HR systems such as Workday, BambooHR, HiBob, Personio and SAP SuccessFactors, signs people in through Microsoft Entra, Okta, OneLogin or Google, and works with Slack, Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
AI runs through the product in two ways. The Luther AI Coach gives managers suggestions on how to act on what the data shows, and predictive models aim to flag people at risk of leaving or burning out, and shifts in performance, before they happen. Recommendations are written with the help of people scientists. Reviewers on Capterra rate LutherOne highly, around 4.8 out of 5, and praise its ease of use, its dashboards, its support and its anonymity protections. The criticisms are mostly about limits in survey customisation, exports and some integrations.
Where LutherOne came from
LutherOne is a Czech company, registered in Prague in 2018 and founded by Jiří Báča, a telecoms and banking executive who had led Vodafone in the Czech Republic and mBank, and worked at GE and Citi. He funded the company himself at the start. In 2019, Forbes Česko reported it was a finalist at the Unleash HR technology conference in Paris and opening offices in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Its focus on engagement reflects where it started: the idea that people’s happiness at work, and managers’ ability to act on it, drives results. Logos on its site include large European employers such as Škoda, O2, DHL, ČEZ and Orange, and an Orange case study reports a significant rise in employee net promoter score. Performance management and goals were added as the platform grew from a survey tool into a broader people platform, the same path Culture Amp and others have taken.
LutherOne pros and cons
What LutherOne does well, and where it struggles.
Where LutherOne shines
- Strong engagement surveys and people analytics, with dashboards reviewers rate highly.
- Performance, 360 feedback, skills mapping and goals in the same platform as engagement.
- Goals can be individual, team or company-wide, using KPIs, OKRs or any framework, with weights and check-ins.
- An AI coach for managers, and predictive models that flag people at risk of leaving or burning out.
- Wide integrations with HR systems, Microsoft and Google sign-in, Slack, Teams and learning platforms.
Where LutherOne struggles
- Built for HR and people leaders; company goals are a small part of a large people platform.
- Goals sit inside performance management, so they tend to become individual targets tied to reviews.
- Like other goal tools, it shows whether goals are on track, not what’s holding them back.
- No free plan, and pricing isn’t clearly published; you book a demo for a quote.
- Some reviewers mention limits in survey customisation, exports and integrations.

How LutherOne differs from Clearahead in practice
LutherOne and Clearahead both have goals in them, and both use AI. Beyond that they’re built for different people, and they answer different questions.
A people platform, or a leadership tool
LutherOne is bought and run by HR directors and people leaders. Its job is to help a company understand its people: how engaged they are, how they’re performing, what skills they have and who might leave. Goals are there because performance management needs them. Clearahead is bought by founders, CEOs, COOs and heads of department, and it does one job: keep the leadership team aligned on the company’s goals and moving on what’s in the way. It’s the tool the leadership team opens to decide what to do this week.
Individual targets, or the company’s goals
In a performance module, goals are weighted, set in cycles and reviewed by managers and peers. That’s the right way to run performance, but it shapes the goals. People write targets they’ll be judged on, and they tend to keep a slipping goal green for as long as they can. In Clearahead, each goal belongs to the company and gets its own workspace: grow revenue, launch the product, close the round. Heads of department own the constraints, their teams own the moves, and nobody’s review depends on the colour. That makes it easier for people to say what’s really stuck.
How people feel, or what’s in the way
LutherOne is very good at one kind of “why”: why people are disengaged, which teams are struggling and who might leave. That’s valuable, and a goal can certainly slip because a team is burnt out. But most goals slip for operational reasons: a dependency nobody owns, a decision that hasn’t been made, a channel that isn’t working. Clearahead is built to surface those. Each goal has a short list of the constraints holding it back, in the order your team chooses, and each constraint has the moves that will clear it, each with one owner. We explain the thinking in Remove constraints, don’t add initiatives.
AI that coaches managers, or AI that runs the loop
LutherOne’s AI coach helps managers act on people data, and its predictive models look for risks across the workforce. AJ, the AI inside Clearahead, works on the company’s goals. Owners tell AJ what happened in a sentence. AJ updates the move, keeps the evidence, carries the change up the model only as far as it matters, questions assumptions that look shaky, suggests next moves and writes This week from AJ, with the wins and up to three things that need a decision. Nobody fills in a check-in form, and the leadership team gets one honest picture each week.
Quoted per user, or one price for the company
LutherOne prices per user and quotes after a demo, which is normal for people platforms sold to larger companies. Clearahead is free for up to three people and one workspace, then £297 a month or £2,997 a year for the whole company, with no per-seat charges, so you can include every owner, your board and your advisers.
What Clearahead doesn’t do
Clearahead has no engagement surveys, people analytics, 360 feedback, skills mapping, performance reviews or attrition predictions. If you need those, LutherOne is a credible choice and Clearahead won’t replace it.
Running LutherOne and Clearahead together
The two fit together cleanly because they look at different things. LutherOne holds everything about people: how they feel, how they’re doing, how they’re growing. Clearahead holds the company’s goals: what the company is trying to achieve, what’s holding each goal back and who is moving on it. When the engagement data shows a team is struggling, that can become a constraint on the goal it’s working on, with a move and an owner, rather than a finding that sits in a dashboard.
Should you choose LutherOne or Clearahead?
Choose LutherOne if
- Your main goal is understanding and improving engagement, retention and performance.
- You have an HR team that wants surveys, 360 feedback, skills and analytics in one place.
- You want an early warning on attrition and burnout, and coaching for managers.
- You want individual goals and reviews in the same system as your engagement data.
Choose Clearahead if
- You want the leadership team aligned on a few company goals, not a people analytics platform.
- Your goals are clear but keep slipping, and nobody can say exactly why.
- You want AI to do the asking and the upkeep for the company’s goals.
- You want a free plan to start and one published price for the whole company.
- You don’t yet have an HR team, or the people to need one.
Our honest read
If you’re an HR leader who wants to understand engagement, spot attrition risk early and run performance and feedback in one place, LutherOne is a well-reviewed platform worth a demo, particularly for larger European companies. Goals linked to reviews and development are exactly what a people platform should offer. If it’s working for you, keep it.
But a people platform won’t align a leadership team on why the company’s goal is slipping. Engagement scores and performance ratings tell you about people; they don’t give the leadership team a shared, ordered view of what’s in the way of revenue, a launch or a raise, or who is clearing each part of it. That needs its own place, kept apart from anyone’s review so people can be honest.
Many smaller companies look at people platforms too early because they promise goals as well. If you don’t yet have an HR team, start with alignment: Clearahead is free for up to three people. If you already run LutherOne, keep it for your people and run the company’s goals in Clearahead.
